The "60 Round Boys"
This being a monthly history of the 55th Ohio Volunteer Infantry
For March 2003 by Bill Johnson

After spending their thirty days furlough back in Ohio, the 55th Ohio finally returned to Lookout Valley, Tennessee, on March 4th, 1864. Their time was then spent in long hours of drill and picket duty. Colonel Charles Gambee issued several special orders concerning the order of the camp, drills, dress parade, etc. Probably he was reminding the boys that their furlough was over and that it was time to reacquaint themselves with army life. It also appears that the soldiers had become quite lax in their appearance and Colonel Gambee, being the disciplinarian that he was, sought to have a tighter reign on his command. Special Orders No. 20, parts X and XI require that the soldiers wear the uniform provided by the army as well as the regulation cap.

On The 29th of March, Colonel Gambee cited Private Philip Cann, Company G, to ten days "Fatigue Duty" for violating the above orders by wearing citizen's pants at Brigade Guard Mount.
