The "60 Round Boys"
This being a monthly history of the 55th Ohio Volunteer Infantry
For February 2003 by Bill Johnson

The men of the 55th Ohio were still at home enjoying their thirty days Veteran furlough during the month of February, 1864. On the 17th of February, Colonel Orland Smith (for unknown reasons) resigned command of the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 11th Corps. He had commanded the brigade since late May and led it with distinction during the campaigns and battles of Gettysburg and Chattanooga.

By the 22nd of February, 1864, the 55th Ohio reassembled in Cleveland, Ohio, for the journey back to Tennessee and the war.
